“I Know There's More I Should Be Doing to Find Leads But I’m Just Too Busy to Look for Work”

Look. Most freelancers know that if they pitch more leads, they sell more projects. But let's be real. You weren't put on this earth to search for new leads all day. Your time is better spent elsewhere, like on billable work. So stop pretending you'll eventually get around to tedious and time-consuming lead generation. It's not going to happen. So... how will you get clients tomorrow, next week, and next month?

On this page I'm going to share how you can do all of these things whether or not you think you have time to. I hope that the contnet on this page transforms how you think about lead generation in your business, regardless of whether you decide to try the program. Cool? Let's go.

If You're a Freelancer, Emailing Potential Clients Is Your #1 Priority

We all know how much dry spells suck. When you're in one, each day the stress mounts. The importance of every new opportunity balloons until you go into every meeting thinking the same thing: “I need this job.” You’re desperate and clients can smell it from a mile away. Sometimes it last weeks or months.

But no matter how painful it is, you can turn dry spells into a positive by accepting reality, and making the decision to stop them forever. A few years ago I surveyed 500+ agency owners and asked two questions:

“What do you do when you run out of work?” and “How much money do you make?”

Their answers were fascinating. Shops who actively reached out to potential clients when they ran out of work made almost 2.5x more than those who sat and waited. Yet, only a tiny fraction (10%) actually do it!

That’s why if you're a freelancer or agency owner, emailing potential clients should be your #1 priority. Not only is it effective, but it gives you back control over your business growth. Why wait until you’re in a dry spell? Imagine emailing a warm lead every week no matter what. How much more would you make? Double? Triple?

My clients were always my priority but when I had too much client work, I neglected sales activities and my pipeline suffered. Since starting with your Leads Newsletter, I've had an unbroken chain of daily lead generation activity no matter what. I use my inbox as a to-do list and every week that leads email is a convenient reminder to get selling.

Kurt Elster, Ethercyle

I know what you’re saying: “But I’m already overloaded as it is! I simply don’t have time to find clients to pitch, let alone waste my time cold emailing them only to never hear back.“ I get it.

Even if you buckled down and dilligently emailed clients in the next few weeks, sure you might win a project or two... but eventually you'd get busy again. You might say you'll: “pick things back up once it all calms down again.” But if you're honest you know it’s a lie.

It never calms down. One second you're juggling multiple gigs and the next you're scrambling to find work. One client pulls the rug from underneath you and suddenly another does too. Accept it. That’s just the business you’re in.

The REAL mistake is not doing anything to prepare NOW. The question is what? I don’t recommend prospecting yourself because it's a total time-suck. And cold emailing companies you know nothing about is even less effective. But you still need to find a fast way to find new opportunities regularly. Leads that are pre-vetted and looking to hire a professional like you RIGHT NOW. Having that is a totally different position to be in. And the truth is these opportunities are out there …

Expand Your Client Network Calmly and Systematically and Enjoy Growth

As a high-value professional you'd lose over $2,000+ in billable hours when you look for work yourself. That's too much. But what are the alternatives? Typically, hiring a salesperson costs a lot... even up to 50% of your total sales. (So a $10,000 contract might cost $5,000.) Hiring a VA, while cheaper (about $1,000/month minimum in my experience), takes up just as much of your time after you factor in getting up to speed with things like training and management... yet it doesn't guarantee you produce any results.

Don’t you wish another option existed? What if you could wake up every week and have your lead gen done for you so you could just open your inbox and reply to pre-vetted clients that are eager to find someone like you right now? What if you could instantly 10x your network of clients without having to lift a finger, much less spend years building it up from scratch? What if you could get access to hundreds of exclusive opportunities that almost no other professional in your space had access to?

Imagine joining an exclusive group freelancers that gets hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of client work delivered to their inbox each year. Imagine skipping years and years of lead gen and marketing, and just getting a steady stream of clients coming to you from day one. Imagine if your inbox was full ofhigh-paying leads that urgently needed a freelancer or agency like yours.

Imagine if you had all this while getting back 40-60 hours per month. What could you do with that time? What areas of your business could you invest in? Who could you spend more time with?

How would you feel being able to keep your pipeline burning bright whether you happened to have time to do marketing this week or not? You’d no longer have to bug your network for work. You’d simply wake up and contact one of the leads in your inbox. Someone who’s already looking to hire someone like you.

Totally a no-brainer for most freelancers.

More Lead Newsletter Customer Reviews

You sent me an email about a project on Tuesday and by the following day I had a back and forth conversation with the client. Thursday we had a call about the project and by Monday we started actually working together on it. It was a really fast process. I've been a freelancer for quite a while and most of the projects that I've had in the past, I've found through word of mouth or coworkers. But this newsletter has been really great, almost more like getting projects via word of mouth rather than applying to random jobs or working with recruiters. This is a really great community that you're starting and building up.

Jes Albro, Guidea

I like to focus on projects that are particularly interesting to me, and fit my skill set well so I was reluctant to sign up at first. But amongst the work I scored from the newsletter last year were two projects that have now blossomed into amazing client relationships and tens of thousands of dollars… with no end in sight. I was really on the fence about signing up (and freelancing in general), but I’ve gotten over my imposter-syndrome at this point and realize I can compete and score some of these great leads.

I can honestly say that being a customer of yours for the past year-ish has made me a much smarter (and better) freelancer. I’m crushing it – well into 6 figures in revenues this year, and exceeding my “projections” by like 50% (absurd!). I haven’t been doing this that long, but I’m very confident in my abilities as a businessman, client relationship manager (and of course, designer).

Corey Tiani, pointpxl

My subscription has been a god-send. When I first started, I had been working as a designer for some time, but only had a few off-hand freelance contracts. Because of the opportunities I found on the newsletter, I found the means and confidence to try freelancing full-time. Since then, I’ve been able to land two other contracts – one with a consumer-facing startup called BenchSentry trying to launch their first mobile app and another with Harvard Medical School. For the first time in my career, I feel like I’m doing the right type of work. I cannot thank you enough! I’ve been hesitant on subscribing to Folyo because it made freelancing all-too real and meant that I had to commit to freelancing for the long term. But I’m finally ready to dive deeper!

Kevin Chang, Freelancer

As an agency owner there are always going to be ebbs and flows. But landing this project helps us better plan for the future. This is a six-figure contract. It's by far the biggest project we’ve landed. And that’s really helped us calm the stress. I can definitely say without having access to this project we’d still be in the same place we were a few years ago. Pretty incredible.

The biggest part that I was surprised about was that they’d only received 6 proposals. I attribute that to your system. For a team of 3 this will allow us to grow. It’s going to pay our salaries and put money in the bank.

Joey Kirk, Made by Munsters

At first I was worried about the lead quality and quantity. If the leads weren’t a good match for my services or there wasn’t enough of them then the service wouldn’t have worked for me. Once I figured out my process it made it easy to compliment my own lead generation process. Every week there was a good chance that at least one lead in the newsletter could use my services. The best thing about the newsletter is that it runs on email so it’s easy to process, archive, or save. If I get busy I can leave it alone until I have time for it.

Leads grouped by type which lets me ignore the ones that don’t apply to me. The additional contact information makes it easier to find the actual people behind the project. The educational content around writing better emails and other topics help me improve my own process. It’s a great service to supplement other forms of marketing because it requires very little time. It’s especially valuable if someone is checking job boards by hand because there are a lot of full-time and non-remote leads that you’d have to filter out.

In less than a year I’ve won close to $65,000 in projects from this newsletter alone. All of them have become repeat clients who I expect would be buying additional services over the next few years.

Eric Davis, Little Stream Software

Being from outside the US, I was intimidated. I signed up for the newsletter because it sounded like a dream way to receive possible leads. I hesitated but ended up ordering within a week. Robert wrote in one of his first emails, that it takes time and practice to actually land a project, and that it can take weeks or even months. I had no problem with that. Nevertheless, I landed my first project after just 4 or 5 days. The monthly cost of the newsletter is covered already, and I still have weeks left from my first month. I’ll keep being a subscriber, thanks Robert!

Gabor Szurdoki, Freelancer

In seven months, I’ve closed 3 deals that total a little over $20,000 – directly from the leads in the newsletter. All three of these projects have led to long-term clients that continue to come back to me, so the value of these contracts continues to grow. One of the clients wanted a front-end developer, and now I am helping him build a travel booking engine. It has been a small but on-going project worth about $2,000 every month. Another client runs a successful e-Learning web application. I wrapped up the work that was in the scope of the project a few weeks ago, and just the other day, the client contacted me to see if I was available to take on some more work.

The discussions I've had on the community have proven incredibly valuable, and have done a lot to improve my response-rate when emailing leads, my technique for following up, as well as my business in general. Truth be told, I probably could have gotten even more work through the newsletter, but when I am very busy, I am selective about which leads I contact. It’s possible to actually wind up with more work than I can handle through this! :-)

Update: BTW, I just closed another lead from the newsletter, a deal to subcontract for a design agency. Its really great what you’re doing!

Elliot Betancourt, Hip Dot Media

I’m starting to build an on-going relationship with clients. The day I took the Newsletter for a test drive, here’s how it went down: 8:30 am – signed up. 9:21 am - sent first email to lead. 10:22 am - had phone interview with lead. 10:40 am - received W-9 and project contract. If this sounds ridiculous, it’s because it is. And it actually happened. Because of this newsletter I’m starting to build an on-going relationship with a client, which is beyond worth the cost. I typically don’t do reviews, rate things, etc, but this has to be said: this newsletter is an incredibly EFFECTIVE tool, and a must-have for freelancers. Thanks so much!

Dave Matheson, Bitly

I feels absolutely amazing not having to check job boards. Wading through all the crappy jobs to find the good ones was tough enough. I'm no longer stressed about what comes next. The leads in the newsletter are amazing and I look forward to your email every week. Thanks for a wonderful project.

Patrick O’dwyer, Turtledome

You did all the legwork. Great job filtering down to just the people who really met the detailed requirements. The icing on the cake was the interview recordings – which made it a really efficient process for us.

Theresa Neil, Guidea

On the first day I used this, I contacted 3 prospective clients and got three emails back. One of those turned into a solid gig. It's totally worth it so far. A big reason why is that I know they'll be 100% freelance-friendly frontend leads and I don't have to do any thinking about whether it makes sense for me to apply or not. Thanks for creating this Newsletter!

Jason Swett, Meadows Eye

Man you are really kicking (butt). I feel like you're doing all of the work and I just get to be all la-tee-da over picking who I reach out to. Keep up the good work! I've been super pleased with my choice to invest in this Newsletter. You've proven to be a low-risk way to get more leads to my door and as a busy owner, you're exactly the type of person I want to work with for a long time. Please don't stop!

Nick Hance, Reenhanced

Up until now I’ve been relying on word-of-mouth for work and this has been a nice easy way to start up the lead generation process without wasting time filtering through all the junk I was worried about.

Curtis Herbert, Breakpoint Studio

I signed up about 2 months ago when I decided to move away from my full time job and transition into freelancing. I put together a simple portfolio and replied to 2-3 ads per day consistently. After a month I had made over $3000 off of the leads and also got offered a full-time contract ($100,000/year roughly). That’s a bigger return than I ever expected. It’s brought a ridiculous return and if I ever move to freelancing again, first thing I’ll do is sign up for this newsletter again.

Milosz Falinksi, Lumi Design

At first I was unsure about whether the ROI would be worth the monthly cost. But after joining I realized the “potential” ROI is enormous and worth the cost. I like that while I get leads covering various types of work, they are grouped by those types of work making it easier to find the leads for the type of work I focus on. I’ve also been about to practice emailing people, get out of my head and realize that I am just sending an email and the worse thing that can happen is that it will go unread. It’s opened my eyes to the amount of work that is actually available, and not just what was represented by recruiter. This realization that networking events and referrals aren’t the only ways to get leads and work has been huge for my mindset. It is vital to teaching people that they can find work for themselves, especially those who have relied on others, like friends and recruiters, for so many years.

Mark Brown, GameSim

On the first day I contacted three prospective clients and got three emails back. One of those communications turned into a solid gig. It's totally worth it so far. A big part of why it's worth it to me to pay $97/mo for leads is that I know they'll be 100% freelance-friendly leads and I don't have to think about whether it makes sense for me to apply or not. Again, I'm really loving the Leads Newsletter so far, and thanks for creating it. I look forward to continuing to use it for a long time.

Jamie Syke, Syke Co

Since using the newsletter I have seen excellent results toward bringing in new business. I was able to start a connection with a lead that has brought in over $2700 in projects, with more planned in the near future. I'm also in talks with another great organization that may result in ongoing projects as well. I read through every newsletter and typically follow up with one each day. It lets me put to rest how I get clients so that I'm able to focus on automating this part of my business.

Joshua Wold, XWP

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m outside the US. Is that a problem?

Nope. Freelancers from all over the world win projects from our Leads Newsletter each week. 90%+ of the projects we send are remote and open to freelancers anywhere, so you don’t have to be in the US.

What type, how many, and how often (etc.) will opportunities be sent to me?

We never send a lead just to send it. The exact number depends on how many great clients post a project that week, but you can expect a handful of great opportunities each week and raise your baseline level of lead activity permanently, no matter what.

What if I do X type of work?

Right now we're focused on freelancers who do design and development. We have two newsletters currently: Web Design (great for both designers and developers) and WordPress (great for front-end developers). If you can produce design or code - at any level - you can make a lot of money from the leads we send. If you're not a designer or developer, click here.

What if I’m just starting out?

This program is designed for folks who are beginners as well as those who’ve been doing client work for a while. In fact, because you’re starting out you have an advantage of not having developed bad habits in your business. It's even more important that you sign up before lead issues become engrained in your business.

What if I don't want yet another thing on my to-do list?

The last thing you need is another thing on your to-do list. Our Leads Newsletter is NOT another online job site you have to manage and force yourself to find extra time for. It's not a band-aid or a workaround. Our Lead Newsletter is a focused, at-your-own-pace, transformational program that will make it dead simple to consistently win more work and grow your client network in a few hours per week.

That's it. I recommend spending at least 3 hours a week on emailing the leads featured for maximum benefit. You can even do it from your phone, or iPad — whatever's easiest for you. And while 3 hours is my guideline, you can go faster or slower if you want. If you get busy, you can pause your subscription, with one click.

How fast will this work?

It varies. Some people land a client in their first month, others take 6+ months before they see a new client, however, 99% of people who reply to these leads consistently see results. I recommend short-term urgency and long-term patience. Winning just one project from the newsletter pays for your subscription for life.

30 Day Moneyback Guarantee Seal

An Unbeatable Guarantee: End the Feast or Famine Cycle In Your Business Or It's Free

We pack each newsletter with a ton of great leads and I want to make sure that you not get a taste of what it’s like – I want to give you a full 30 days to let it marinate, and integrate into your business. Try the newsletter for a full 30 days. That’s enough time to see what we have to offer and then decide. If you don’t LOVE it, I insist you get 100% of your money back. I’ll even eat the credit-card processing fees.

It’s simple: If the leads don’t help you expand your client network in 30 days, I want you to email me. Show me you contacted at least 1 lead, and I’ll give you all your money back. This guarantee lasts 30 days, which means you’ll get 50+ leads. Land a client THEN decide if it’s right for you.

Some Freelancers Choose to Waste Years Without a Plan ...

Others Know Landing Just One Project Pays for Their Subscription for Life

Since starting my Leads Newsletter I’ve seen copycat services come and go. These look-a-like services use automated scraping tools to find leads. I don’t believe in that. Only a real, experienced, freelancer knows what a great lead looks like. Not some script or algorithm. That’s why while the other services continue to disappear, my newsletter's value will only continue to increase. We've raised the price a couple times already so make no mistake, right now is the absolute best time to join. The price will only increase, and the window to join is getting smaller. Missing out on signing up now literally means thousands lost on the cost alone.

Secondly, it’s a common misconception that dry spells are a part of freelancing. The truth is they happen because we sit and wait. Failing to line up work during flush times (not just during dry spells), is the real reason you run into feast or famine cycles. Just because you have work now, you’re short on time, or you have some other excuse, you shouldn’t put your hands up and stop all sales activity.

See, like you, I’ve been through dry spells. And I know there are a ton of businesses out there who will benefit from working with me. That’s why I’ve put myself in front of you right now, and I believe it’s your turn to do the same for businesses you can help every week. This Leads Newsletter will help you do that. Members say that the leads I send reply at a higher rate than outreach they’ve done in the past. But the truth is they also have an unfair advantage. They're awesome people and marketing, portfolios, job boards and prospecting no longer sucks up all their billable time, so they’re able to focus and share their awesomeness with more companies.

Some have landed huge projects, or even full-time remote dream clients from our newsletter. All have saved the most precious thing of all; time.

I'm looking forward to seeing you inside!
–Robert Williams
